Your hosts are Dean Walls and Maudie Jordan who welcome you to their home in what they consider to be one of the best locations in the South Island. Set amongst unspoiled native forest just metres from Maruia River which is one of the best trout fishing rivers in New Zealand. Awapiriti Lodge lets you experience a beautiful piece of New Zealand countryside in a place that feels like you are staying with friends.

The house is surrounded by extensive gardens with lots of lovely birdlife, a large veggie patch and fruit orchard for you to enjoy. Every evening we offer dinner of either two or three courses which features our own produce (including venison). We have a comprehensive wine list to choose from or perhaps you would prefer a complimentary glass of Dean's home-brewed beer! After a day's exploring, nothing could be nicer than to relax by the fire with a drink and a good book or a DVD.

About Us

Here at Awapiriti we are not just a delightful B&B but also an operating farm. We have cattle and sheep, as well as a few deer and some rather casual chooks which lay whenever the mood takes them! Our beautiful property consists of 116 hectares, only 20 hectares of which is farmed. The remainder is unspoiled native forest extending to the skyline and backing onto a national park where there are a couple of lovely walking trails up through the bush all of which are marked so you don't get lost.

Awapiriti is also bordered by the Maruia River, which flows from the mountains in the Lewis Pass area, and joins the Buller River about 5 kms north of our property. The Maruia River, just 100m from our B&B, is world renowned for its excellent trout fly-fishing, kayaking and swimming. We can help with fishing guides for your further enjoyment.
